ghenwa (noiré) abou fayad is a cross-disciplinary performer, illustrator, and workshop facilitator based in Amsterdam and Beirut.
In music, they explore improvisation using an electro-bouzouqi setup and vocals, creating ephemeral performances shaped by the immediacy of each setting. Their storytelling work engages with themes of oral history, mental struggles, and everyday survival, often emphasising the notion of repetition, as in Halawa Ghawwassah – Beauty Underwater. They are currently producing their debut EP, daken – sombre.
abou fayad has facilitated several Sonic Acts workshops in the past few years, including Voice as Legacy: Tracing the Unwritten and Insurgent Learning Workshop – Pedagogy of the Surveilled. In 2023, they initiated the Hacked Orchestra project in collaboration with Hackers & Designers collective, which was presented at the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam.
Amongst other places, abou fayad has performed at venues including Singelkerk, Van Gogh Museum, Radion, Worm Rotterdam, Sonic Acts Biennial, Stedelijk Museum, Framer Framed, Frascati Theater, Plein Theater in the Netherlands, as well as Instants chavirés, Tour Orion, Le Consulat in Paris, France.
